Jodi was re-intubated last night. They are currently working to place the peg tube in the abdomen (this will be her temporary feeding tube). They are also at that time going to place a tracheotomy in her throat to enable the ventilation to be done that way and allow her to talk again. She has been sedated most of the day and is very lethargic, but understands what is going on. The doctors feel that the tracheotomy will allow her throat to heal and this will help in the long run. In the short run, she will be more comfortable. The doctors feel this is a temporary issue and the trach will be taken out when she is able to breathe normally and comfortably on her own. As for the feeding tube, Dr. Scalabrin feels that Jodi's gag reflex and swollowing ability will return with time (upwards of three months). It has been proposed that the family does a weekly fast for her recovery and for her swallowing ability. I will keep you posted throughout the day. Please don't hesitate to call me (Josh), but please let Robert and Mom rest...They are so thankful for everyone's concern and prayers...please continue with the prayers and fasting as we know that thru our faith Jodi will make the greatest progress. If you have questions please call me.
Josh.
